This interactive presentation will delve into the areas of networking as a business strategy, recession proofing your career, and helping those in career transition.  Discussions pertaining to introducing and marketing yourself, being a problem solver, targeting where you want to be, and utilizing and growing your existing network will be at the forefront of this exhilarating topic.  Understanding the importance of networking in every aspect of your career makes this session a must for any HR professional.

Speakers Bios
Fred Bocker is the President and Owner of Fishel & Bocker HR Associates, Inc., a staffing firm specializing in the placement of contract and direct hire human resources professionals.  He has also been hired as a consultant with Right Management conducting coaching for individuals in career transition.  Fred has 25 years of HR experience mainly at the director level with expertise in all of the generalist functions of HR and is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)  He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing.  Fred is heavily involved in the HR Community and periodically serves as an expert for The Republic Career Builder section of the newspaper.  

Al O’Connor is founder of O’Connor HR Career Coaching, a unique service for Human Resources professionals who desire to advance their careers through new employment.  Al has 40 years experience as a human resource professional, corporate officer, company president, business owner, business developer, consultant and president of an international career management association.  He has been a significant contributor to two major company turnarounds and has developed a reputation as a change agent and a leader in the human resources community.  Al received his Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from Loyola University of Chicago and did graduate work at Loyola’s Institute of Industrial Relations.



ADAA: We Are All Disabled Now

Session Description

The ADAA, which became effective on January 1, 2009, was passed with the express purpose of restoring the "broad scope of protection" available under the ADA.  The Act renders moot many Supreme Court decisions that had restricted ADA protections to the truly disabled.  Now, virtually anyone with a sneeze is eligible for an accommodation.  This presentation will explain the ramifications of the ADAA and what employers should do to avoid liability and keep workers working under the broader protections now available under the ADA.

Speakers Bios

DAVID T. BARTON is a partner in the Phoenix office of Quarles & Brady LLP.  Mr. Barton has focused his practice on employment law with special emphasis on wage and hour, sexual harassment, age and disability discrimination, drug testing, and health-care issues.  In addition to his work in defending employers from wrongful termination and discrimination claims, Mr. Barton provides advice and counseling to employers concerning executive compensation and termination, employee counseling and motivation and the creation and review of employee handbooks, contracts and policy manuals.   Mr. Barton received his Juris Doctorate degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the J. Reuben Clark Law School of Brigham Young University in 1992 where he was articles editor of the Brigham Young University Law Review. He received his bachelors degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Brigham Young University in 1988 graduating as college valedictorian.

Veronica S. Harvey is a Senior Vice President with Aon’s Human Capital Consulting Practice. Dr. Harvey’s work focuses on improving the performance of organizations though Talent Management.  This includes competency modeling, job analysis, employee selection and retention, test validation, leadership assessment and development and performance management.  Dr. Harvey received a Doctorate in Industrial Organization Psychology, a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, all from Iowa State University.  Specializing in applications of industrial psychology for over 20 years, Dr. Harvey has worked in both corporate and consulting talent management roles.
